International Studies, Bachelor of Arts

International Studies is an interdisciplinary program built around a core of courses (including foreign language study) illustrating the interdependency created by globalization. Within the program, students choose a thematic and regional focus that allows them to hone their expertise in areas best suited to their career interests and to develop linguistic skills.

Students graduating with a degree in International Studies display an understanding of the powerful forces that define global issues from a variety of perspectives in society, including business, communications, culture, society and health issues, politics, and science. Demonstrating the skills needed to function in the global environment and interpret world events, they also exhibit an appreciation for and sensitivity to diverse cultures and values.

The INTS major includes 12 hours of required core courses and 24 hours of electives chosen from three thematic and three area studies options. These electives permit students to design a course of study around their own thematic and linguistic interests and career plans.

Shelby Rust
"You can go and do anything as long as you set your mind to it and work hard. I truly believe I got my job because of my extra-curriculars and the things I filled my time with during my 4 years. I gained a lot of skills from different positions I held and different clubs I was a part of. But mostly, I gained skills from the encouragement of my classmates and teachers in the International Studies major." Rust says "through my International Studies scholarship, classes, and related groups I was a part of, I met people from around the globe and was able to hear their stories. It not only afforded me the opportunity to fit in studying abroad, but encouraged it! I was able to learn a language, learn a culture, learn a country and a people and still graduate on time."
